Sustainable biobalance

What does the equipment solve?

  • Calculation of active volume, retention time and aeration for your RAS flow rate.
  • Separation of nitrification and denitrification (separate reactors/zones).
  • Stable operation during temperature and feeding fluctuations.
  • Service access: blowing, washing, hatches and visual inspection.

Equipment

  • PP/PE housing, thermal insulation (optional), service platforms.
  • Supply/extraction manifolds with balancing valves.
  • Aeration module (for MBBR) or spray/irrigation (for trickling).
  • Flushing: air purge/reverse flow, inspection ports.
  • Automation panel: DO, ORP, t°, accidents and remote access (optional).

Types of biofilters and operating principle

MBBR (fluidized layer)

The floating load is mixed with air bubbles or stirrers. The biofilm grows on media and oxidizes ammonia (NH₃/NH₄⁺) → nitrite → nitrate. High resistance to changes due to intensive water/media contact.

  • Requires mechanical pre-cleaning (drum/cartridge).
  • Control: DO, aeration intensity, carrier filling percentage.
  • Washing: periodic purging and discharge of suspended matter.
Irrigated (trickling)

Water is sprayed from above along the cassette/ring loading; The runoff passes through the biofilm with active oxygen saturation. It features low aeration energy consumption and good CO₂ degassing.

  • Sensitive to clogging - uniform spray and flushing is required.
  • Effective as a “polishing” or in combination after mechanics.
  • Can be combined in cascades to enhance the effect.

Selection and calculation

  • Initial: feeding (kg/day), protein, hydraulics, T and pH.
  • Type selection: MBBR - for load and dynamics; irrigated - for oxygen polishing/degassing.
  • The active volume and share of the carrier is according to the required kg TAN/day.
  • Checking pressure drop and service availability.

Options and integration

  • Denitrification stage with carbon dosing (separate reactor).
  • Redundancy of aeration/pumps, GSM/Push notifications.
  • Arrangement with drum filter, flotator, oxygenator.
  • Remote monitoring, export of parameter logs.
